“Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for humankind and not humankind for the Sabbath,”
Mark 2:27 NRSVUE
I’m taking on intentionality this year, including a commitment to slowing down on sabbath. We do not honor rest as we should. Sabbath rest means intentionally ceasing from work and labor to rest, refresh the soul, and focus on God, worship, and rejuvenation, originating from the Hebrew shabbat, which means “to cease” or “stop.” A spiritual practice modeled after God resting on the seventh day of creation, it is a declaration of freedom from the pressure to constantly produce and an opportunity to find rest in Christ.
Let’s do better. We were meant for joy and restoration.
Thanks be to God.
