“Have nothing to do with profane and foolish tales. Train yourself in godliness, for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”
1 Timothy 4:7-8 NRSVUE
Being Godly can be defined as the ability to discern God’s way, to voluntarily surrender one’s own will to do what is right and, with the promised Divine help, to resist the wrong even under pressure and temptation.
Ok, so we try. Trying matters though, because as Jill Scott reminds us, we are in fact “beautifully human,” AKA massively flawed.
Fortunately, God is gracious and patient. We should strive to be so, too.
