“I am my beloved’s, And my beloved is mine. He feeds his flock among the lilies.”
Song of Solomon 6:3 NKJV
I fought with my father, who officiated our wedding, about this being among our readings. I adored the sentiments, while his concern was for the assertion among theologians that its sensual overtones might be…distracting.
I conceded.
Nonetheless, I forever referred to Mr. Wilson as My Beloved. The poetry of Song of Solomon describes total, mutual devotion, unity, and belonging between two lovers. For 31 years of marriage, I was My Beloved’s and he was mine.
This day will always be special to me.
Beloved, thank you for the gift of a beautiful life.
Rest in eternity.
I will chase joy, and intentionally pursue a rich life.
